San Luis Obispo man injured in vehicle assault

Police say suspect intentionally struck pedestrian after highway dispute

San Luis Obispo Police arrested a Nipomo man Friday following a road rage incident that ended with a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Broad Street.

The incident occurred June 27 at 11:18 a.m. in the 500 block of Broad Street. Officers were dispatched to a reported vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision. Upon arrival, they determined the pedestrian had been intentionally struck following a confrontation that began on Highway 101.

According to police, witness statements and video evidence showed that the victim and suspect exchanged words and hand gestures in traffic on the highway. The victim exited the highway and parked on Broad Street. Shortly after, the suspect followed, attempted to hit the victim with his truck, and then reversed the vehicle, pinning the victim against his own truck. The suspect fled the scene.

A witness photographed the fleeing vehicle, and officers used the license plate to identify the registered owner as Miguel Angel Solisvargas, 37, of Nipomo. A “be on the lookout” alert was issued to nearby agencies.

Deputies from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle at Solisvargas’ residence. San Luis Obispo police detectives contacted Solisvargas at the home, then arrested and booked him into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.

Solisvargas was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon under Penal Code 245(a)(1), and felony vandalism under Penal Code 594(b)(1).

The victim, a 36-year-old man from San Luis Obispo, suffered minor to moderate injuries. He declined ambulance transport at the scene but later sought treatment at a local hospital.
