San Miguel Community Services District announces three board openings
– The San Miguel Community Services District is seeking candidates to fill three seats on its Board of Directors in the Nov. 3 general election.
The election will fill three board seats beginning in December. Two seats carry four-year terms that will run through December 2030, while one seat carries a two-year term that will run through December 2028.
San Miguel is an unincorporated community in San Luis Obispo County with approximately 2,820 residents. The community is located about 7 miles north of Paso Robles.
The district was formed in 2000 through the consolidation of the San Miguel Fire District, County Service Area 1, the San Miguel Sanitary District, and the San Miguel Lighting District. The district provides fire protection, street lighting and landscaping, wastewater collection and treatment, potable water production and distribution, and solid waste services.
The district is governed by a five-member Board of Directors and employs a general manager, seven administrative and utilities employees, a fire chief, and up to 20 paid on-call firefighters.
Board members serve staggered four-year terms and meet monthly on the fourth Thursday at 6 p.m. at the San Miguel Senior Center, 601 12th St. Board members receive $100 per meeting, up to a maximum of $600 per month.
“Serving on the Board is an opportunity for community members to get involved and contribute to the community’s future,” said General Manager Kelly Dodds.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old, registered to vote in San Miguel, and reside within district boundaries. Board members are not required to have experience related to district services, but are expected to prepare for meetings, review meeting materials, and work with fellow board members, district staff, and residents.
The nomination period for declaration of candidacy forms runs from July 13 through Aug. 7. Interested candidates must call the San Luis Obispo County Elections Office at (805) 781-5228 to schedule an appointment to obtain nomination papers.
