Scammers pose as Amber Alert representatives, seek personal information

    Templeton CHP issues warning

    – The California Highway Patrol Templeton office issued a warning regarding a phone scam involving individuals posing as Amber Alert representatives.

According to authorities, the scammers are offering to “register” children in the Amber Alert system, requesting confidential information and proposing in-person meetings at victims’ homes. Officials emphasized that this is not how the Amber Alert system operates.

The California Highway Patrol is the only agency authorized to activate Amber Alerts, and no registration process is required for participation.

Authorities advise the public to avoid providing personal information or answering calls from unknown or suspicious numbers.

Anyone who has been contacted by individuals claiming to be Amber Alert representatives is urged to report the incident to their local law enforcement agency immediately.
