School district details potential graduation ceremony dates, procedures
–The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is providing a final recommendation regarding commencement activities this year. They posted the following on their Facebook page:
Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is committed to the celebration of our students who are promoting into high school and most importantly those graduating from our District. We are proposing the following schedules for commencement activities during these trying, uncertain times. All ceremonies will only be conducted when local, state and federal restrictions are removed and we can ensure a safe commencement activity.
Stakeholder input: Over the past week, every secondary site conducted virtual parent meetings in English and Spanish. PRHS and Alt Ed also conducted four student/parent meetings and staff and parent surveys. Additionally, we sent our draft plan via email to all secondary parents and staff, and we publicized the plan on social media and local media outlets. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and very supportive. We incorporated some of the suggestions in the final proposed plan.
PRJUSD recommends we set “backup” dates for planning and family travel purposes for our June graduation and promotion ceremonies. Having these backup dates will also help alleviate concerns of cancellation and assist families in planning for the future.
In order to support the safety and facility concerns the following guidelines will be in place:
Seating: All attendance requirements will be in accordance with state and health recommendations. Below is a guideline, that may be altered based on state and health requirements, which could include lower ticket numbers or attendees based state restrictions.
All PRHS graduates will be given a maximum of 8 tickets for War Memorial stadium seating to ensure capacity and cleaning measures. We will allow additional attendees, without tickets, into the endzones for standing room only until facility capacity.
For the LHS/IHS graduation, we will allow War Memorial stadium seating, until the facility reaches capacity.
Middle schools will maintain their promotion attendance at their respective sites.
Graduation ceremonies will be live-streamed as well.
Graduation requirements: All district requirements remain consistent with graduation and promotion of student requirements.
Dates and Plan:
June 2020 Plan:
If we return to school prior to May 11, 2020, and social distancing and group gathering limitations are removed, ceremonies will be as follows:

Thursday, June 4, 2020, Liberty High School & Independence High School at 6 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2020, Paso Robles High School at 6 p.m.
July 2020 Plan:
If our county returns to normal functioning; social distancing and group gathering limitations are removed between May 11-June 12, 2020:

August 2020 Plan:
If our county returns to normal functioning and social distancing and group gathering limitations are removed between June 13- July 10, 2020:
Ceremonies will be as follows: Friday, August 7, 2020, Lewis Middle School at 10:30 a.m. and Flamson Middle 8:30 a.m. at their respective sites. Friday, August 7, 2020, Liberty High School & Independence High School at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2020, Paso Robles High School at 7 p.m.
The district will also consider additional “backup” plans for September 2020 and possibly during the 2020 Winter Break, or a different venue in the fall/winter that may support greater social distancing opportunities, if the above dates are unavailable because of state and health restrictions.
Although we wish our world could go back to “normal” and our end of year celebrations would go on as originally planned, we feel it is essential to plan for our students and families and commit dates to this very important milestone. We are so proud of our students, family, and community and we know, together we can get through these challenging times. Thank you in advance for your support.
