School district holds budget meeting with staff, teachers, community members

Jennifer Gaviola, assistant superintendent.

–The Paso Robles School District held three hour-long meetings Tuesday to encourage input from staff, teachers and community members about ways to cut the budget and save money for the district.

The district has cut $1.3 million from the operating budget. It needs to cut another $800,000 from each of the next two fiscal years.

Administrators divided attendees into three groups. One group told Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Gaviola about staff needs. Another group gave Chief Business Officer Brad Pawlowski input on the budget. A third group talked with Carol Kenyon about programs. Then, each group rotated to another facilitator and topic.

Interim Superintendent Julian Crocker.

Pleasant Valley resident Berkely Baker told about 50 attendees at the 5:30 session, “In light of all the cronyism and nepotism over the past four years, all the hires during the Chris Williams administration should be closely evaluated.”

Chief Business Officer Brad Pawlowski said that two positions have already been eliminated: the District Athletic Director and Director of Schools. Dr. Joe Williams was transferred from Director of Schools position to Director of Student Services.

The staff will report findings from the budget input meetings to the school board at next Tuesday’s meeting.
