School district releases statement on the passing of a student

PRJUSD Addresses Budget Cuts and Community Concerns

    – The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District has released a statement on the recent passing of a student:

    Passing of a Student

With deep sorrow, the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District shares the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our students who attended Pat Butler Elementary School.

Given that this is an ongoing investigation with local law enforcement, we are unable to provide additional details at this time. We are aware that conversations are occurring on social media, and some students may have heard about this tragic loss from their classmates. Your child may come home with questions or feelings they want to talk about, and we encourage open, supportive conversations at home.

We recognize that this loss impacts our entire school community. Mental health professionals have been and will continue to be available on campus to support students and staff as we navigate this difficult time together. If you feel your child needs additional support, please contact the school office.

The district’s statement was released shortly after the police department announced a father had been arrested following the death of a child at a local hospital. The school district did not confirm who the student was or whether the student’s death was related to this recent incident.

When asked for clarification, Rebecca Justice, executive assistant to the superintendent at Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, said, “I’m sorry, we can’t comment further on this as it is an ongoing investigation.”
