Songwriters At Play will feature Cej on Sunday, Feb. 2 at Sculpterra Winery in Paso Robles. At age 60, the man called Cej is touring in support of his debut solo CD. But he’s hardly a newcomer to the music biz. Over the years, Cej (pronounced “siege”, short for Carl E. Johnson) played in bands that recorded for major record labels (MCA, Columbia, United Artists) and shared stages with big stars like Linda Ronstadt, Chuck Berry, Crosby Stills & Nash, and Peter Paul & Mary.

The SoCal singer-songwriter says his music is “deeply rooted in Americana traditions, blending folk, blues, jazz, and country.” His CD “Sleepwalker in Paradise” features 13 tracks, 12 written during a recent 10-month period when Cej was living in Hawaii and Germany. The last track was written in 1968, on the evening of Robert Kennedy’s assassination. Sample the tunes at http://www.cejsongs.com.

Songwriters At Play holds showcases every Sunday afternoon from 1– 4 pm at Sculpterra Winery, located at 5015 Linne Road in Paso Robles. The showcase includes one featured act and others playing 4-song sets. A tip jar is passed around during the featured set, otherwise no cover. All ages are welcome – Sculpterra is great place for a family picnic. For directions or more information call 226-8881or go to http://www.sculpterra.com/location.html.
