Senate candidate receives endorsements

–John Laird, candidate for State Senate District 17, today announced endorsements by statewide elected officials including State Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, State Treasurer Fiona Ma and State Controller Betty Yee.

Laird is running to represent the 17th State Senate District, which includes Paso Robles and all of San Luis Obispo and Santa Cruz Counties, as well as coastal Monterey County and southern Santa Clara County. The 17th District is currently represented by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), who will be termed out in 2020.

“John Laird is tested and ready to serve in the Senate,” said Yee. “John possesses a unique grasp of our state’s finances, as well as the people, programs and communities that are directly affected by the decisions we make.”

“Ricardo Lara, Fiona Ma and Betty Yee have dedicated themselves to a better future for California,” said Laird. “I’m really thankful for their support and I look forward to the possibility of working with them in the future on behalf of the 17th State Senate District.”

John Laird has previously announced endorsements by Members of Congress including:

  • Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley)
  • Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Palo Alto)
  • Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose)
  • Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-Santa Barbara)
  • Former Rep. Sam Farr (D-Carmel)
  • Former Rep. Lois Capps (D-Santa Barbara)
