Shandon ag students get new tractor
With help from an individual donor, the Shandon Agriculture Department purchased a brand new John Deere tractor, replacing the farm tractor that was purchased 20 years ago. The students were speechless as Rick from Cal Coast Machinery unloaded the shiny green and yellow machine at the school farm last Wednesday. “I hope I get to drive it first,” said Sam Romero, a senior enrolled in Ag Construction.
The 43-horsepower tractor purchase was made possible through the generosity of David Maislen, owner of Tours with David and David’s Blue Ribbon Honey in Arroyo Grande. Maislen is an avid supporter of local agriculture students every year at the Industrial Arts Project Auction at the Mid State Fair, and he believes in the value of these programs.
The new tractor will be used to teach students about agricultural machinery safety and operation and will also be used to maintain the school farm.
