Sheriff’s Office hosts annual Christmas bicycle giveaway at Honor Farm
Incarcerated persons refurbish donated bicycles at Honor Farm
– The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office held its annual Christmas Bicycle Giveaway at the Honor Farm, continuing a tradition that began in 1989.
During the event, incarcerated persons at the Honor Farm refurbished bicycles donated by community members. The refurbished bicycles were distributed to children in need.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that all bicycles were successfully delivered to their recipients after a costumed Grinch briefly attempted to take some of the bicycles during the event.
The Sheriff’s Office partnered with the San Luis Obispo Police Department and several other agencies and organizations to carry out the event. Participating partners included the Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation, Bike SLO County, The Sandlot Group of San Luis Obispo, the Paso Robles Police Department, the Cal Poly Police Department, Waste Connections, and the County of San Luis Obispo Health Agency.
Additional support was provided by Blast and Brew and Me n Ed’s Pizza, which supplied food for staff and volunteers. Support was also provided by 98.1 KJUG through Operation Blue Santa, with the radio station assisting the program’s outreach.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the event was made possible through the combined efforts of Honor Farm staff, incarcerated persons, volunteers, and community partners.
