Simulated crude oil train derailment exercise planned 

– There will be a simulated emergency preparedness crude oil train derailment exercise on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at California Men’s Colony. oil train

The drill will consist of the following phases: briefing, response, mitigation, and after action review of the simulated derailment incident. Local responders will be observed and coached by state level subject matter experts from Union Pacific Railroad Hazardous Material Response Team, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Emergency Planning and Management Unit, Department of Fish and Wildlife Service OSPR.

The San Luis Obispo County Type Three Incident Management Team conducts regular training to ensure proficiency and efficiency in the management of emergencies and disasters. The team is comprised of members from various local agencies throughout the county with a variety of specialized skills sets used to mitigate rapidly expanding incidents. These agencies include CAL FIRE/SLO Co. Fire Department, local government fire departments, SLO Co. Public Health, Law Enforcement from both local police departments and the SLO Co. Sherriff’s Office, SLO Co. Public Works.

The San Luis Obispo County Incident Management Team in cooperation with emergency responders from throughout San Luis Obispo County will be conducting a crude oil train derailment exercise to increase preparedness.
