Update: Local man dies as a result of motorcycle accident

    Update posted July 19

–Glenn Paul McMahon, a 65-year-old resident from Atascadero, has died as a result of the injuries that he sustained in a motorcycle collision that occurred earlier this month, according to California Highway Patrol.

On July 10, at approximately 1 p.m., CHP was dispatched to the scene of a traffic collision that occurred on Highway 1, 100 feet north of Pico Avenue. The collision involved six motorcycles that crashed while trying to avoid a car that was slowing down in front of the motorcycles. The car was traveling in the same direction as the motorcycles, directly in front of them.

McMahon died at 2 a.m. on July 18, 2016, at Sierra Vista Hospital.

This collision is still currently under investigation by the Templeton CHP Office.

Two North County residents seriously injured

–Six motorcycles crashed on Highway 1 in San Simeon on Sunday afternoon after a group of motorcyclists failed to notice a car preparing to run left, according to California Highway Patrol. Two North County residents were seriously injured as a result of the collision.

On Sunday at approximately 1 p.m., a group of 15 motorcycles were traveling South on Highway 1 in San Simeon near Pico Avenue. A car was traveling ahead of the group of motorcyclists and indicated that it was going to make a left hand turn. The motorcyclists reportedly did not notice the car’s turn signal or brake lights, and swerved on either side of the car; six motorcyclists lost control and crashed, according to CHP.

Involved parties were: 65-year-old Glenn Paul McMahon of Atascadero, who sustained rib fractures, a bruised lung and bleeding on the brain; 53-year-old Kathleen McMahon of Atascadero, who sustained a punctured right lung, broken ribs and abrasions on both arms; 51-year-old Matthew Brian Sumner of Atascadero, who reported pain in his leg; 47-year-old Micheal Patrick Leland of Templeton who sustained abrasions to his knee, elbow and back; and 41-year-old Gustavo Hurtato of Paso Robles and 54-year-old Jim Preston Restine, who were uninjured.

Not true, the lady never had her turn signal on, and turned and just stopped abruptly in front of the motorcycles! Need to get the facts straight

Prayers to all riders down. As a rider myself I see cars turn with no signal regularly.

As usual, the reporter didn't investigate the facts, nor did he talk with the riders! People turn in front of motorcyclists all the time! Very biased report! Unless you've been on a motorcycle and experienced it yourself, you just don't understand!

I was on the back of my husbands bike with the pack. Out for a Sunday ride, at least that was the plan. I am always watching around and in front while riding. I remember vividly that there absolutely were no lights at all. No brake lights, no blinkers. The driver did get out of her car and offer water, and I'm sure she's not a bad person, but unfortunately there were no warnings that she was stopped and planning on turning. The highway patrolman tested her lights, yes, they worked but you have to turn them on to work. Her foot must have been off the brakes at that point, because there were NO brake lights. The highway Patrolman was as well very nice, but when multiple people told him we are positively sure about no warning lights, he apparently decided to put in his report what one gal told him over all of our statements. We have ridden together for mutiple years and know what to watch for on the road. Sad that the first 6 riders all witnessed no lights, and the highway patrol man doesn't even consider listening to what we had to say. We actually have some photos and are talking to a lawyer. Would have been alot easier to just be honest in the first place. Maybe she usually does use her blinkers but this horrific Sunday she did not. Our Prayers go out to Our MC Family. We need lots of prayers for recovery, physical and emotional.

What a sad story, lots of automobile drivers ppear to be in a brain fog. Far fewer bike and motorcycle rides have this condition as they are continually exposed to danger. I hope that all recover swiftly.

I dont understand how if you are riding your motorcycle at a safe distance from a vehicle infront of you you cannot react and slow to a stop if a vehicle infront of you stops? Did the driver make a hard stop? doesnt sound like it from the report. Ive been riding motorcyles for 16 years and yes drivers do turn infront of you or fail to use blinkers but thats why you keep a good distance for breaking and attempt to alwaays keep ypur safty buffer zone.

Reporter name as news staff show they know its bullshit and no one wants to be identified as a biased fuck and all bikers ti know their names

"break lights"? With that kind of accuracy in writing, it's no wonder the rest of this report is, by the accounts of others, wrong.

You people are not reporting the Trish about this accident that claimed my fathers life..you have not even talked to one family member or the people who were riding with them that day…shame on u paso press

    Toni McNeal-Wainscott

Dawn, I am so sorry for your loss

    Carlie Anne McMahon

I lost my father to this careless driver. 15 well experienced riders are not going to ignore any car in front of them. The police in this area are just covering up something and it will not fly in this case. This woman has taken a wonderful father a living husband and brother to many and sober for 21 years an for them to even assume be cause they ride Harleys and where leathers they are bad people. NO REAL investigation has even been done and I want to know that drivers name since the news wants to report wrong an an police officers wanna not do their damn job the US the taxpayer pay yr salary for. I find this disgracefully discriminating and flat out wrong, I to have consulted a lawyer to bring justice and light on not only the death of my father which that loss alone was heartbreaking several others were very injured and deserve the truth to be told and those falsified reports need to be investigated as well. This is carp and it cost my dad's life out of pure negligence and I find it offensive as all hell that they think it's okay to just lie and report bullshit without even realizing that these motorcyclists are experienced riders and are close friends and were hurt and share the lost of my father. Disgraceful
