Skills USA National Leadership & Skills Conference canceled

Skills USA California will not hold the annual California Skills USA Leadership and Skills Conference this year. Due to the Covid 19 Virus and school closures the California Skills USA State Director attempted to find a virtual solution to holding the conference, however, it became apparent this would be a difficult solution for many of the contestants. The SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference has made the decision to not have the National Leadership & Skills Conference in June 2020.

These decisions have been made for the protection of all involved with Skills USA. It is disappointing for students who worked very hard to be career-ready, but these measures to keep our students and community healthy and safe. It is especially a disappointment for seniors who have competed in Skills USA during their High School experience. When (and if) school resumes this school year, the advisors are planning an event for those students who would have advanced to the State Conference.

The chapter fully intends to return to Skills USA in the 2020-2021 school year as a vital part of the PRHS students’ educational experience. The financial assistance given by community sponsors is truly appreciated and the continued support will be vital to the chapter in the coming years.

The motto of Skills USA, “Ready for Work” describes the intent of Skills USA student organization training students for the workforce and post-secondary education. Region, state and national competitions provide a showcase of students’ abilities to enter the workforce via post-secondary education or on-the-job training.

The 107 PRHS students who competed and received the right to advance to the State Conference at the 2020 Region 2 Conference will be given certificates upon their return to school. Those who won Gold, Silver, and Bronze will receive their medals.
