SLO Farmers market celebrates National Farmers Market week with prizes

–In observance of National Farmers’ Market Week, the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market, in tandem with the SLO County Farmers’ Market Association, will celebrate with a raffle and social media campaign at The Market on Thursday, Aug. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets for the raffle are free and can be picked up at the raffle table located on Chorro Street as part of the Chorro Expansion. Prizes will be donated by local vendors and farmers featured in the market such as Mo’s BBQ, Splash Café Seafood and Grill, Julia’s Juices, and Gracious Greens, among others. For a full list of prize contributors, please visit the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market Facebook page. Winners must be present to win and will be announced every 30 minutes starting at 6:30 p.m. at the raffle table.

This event commemorates the importance of farmers’ markets across the country and how they benefit the community and local farmers. Buying from local growers returns more than three times as much to the local economy compared to chain stores. Farmers’ markets also help preserve farmland and rural livelihoods by creating jobs and diversifying production.

In addition to the raffle, the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market and SLO County Farmers’ Market Association staff will be handing out “I Love Farmers’ Market” temporary tattoos as part of the Farmers’ Market Coalition media challenge. Instagram posts using the hashtag “#LoveMyMarket” and tagging @downtownslofarmersmarket and @farmersmarketsofslo will have a chance to win fun prizes. Winners will be announced by Sept. 16, 2017.

For more information please visit our website at www.DowntownSLO.com or contact Market Manager Ariana Burton at Ariana@DowntownSLO.com or call (805) 541-0286 Ext. 13.
