Soccer tournament generates tourism, support local sports program
Paso Robles AYSO Soccer is hosting its 14th Annual Grape Crush Open Invitation Tournament, Friday January 18 – Sunday, January 20, 2013. The tournament serves players ages 9-14, with 90 teams and families coming from regions as far as Hawthorne from the south, Mountain View from the north, and Visalia to the east.
The influx of over 1,500 participants and The their families is a boon for the local economy. The tournament is a “destination” for the participating families and is unique in the county for drawing teams from so far afield. January is typically a slow travel month for Paso Robles, the added economic stimulus to Paso Robles is welcome by local businesses.
The tournament also helps finance local soccer programs. Per AYSO Region 741 Regional Commissioner, Stacia Finley, “Beyond the vendors, hotels and restaurants benefiting from the tourism created by the tournament, the Grape Crush provides a large donation to the local AYSO Region 741, thus keeping the cost of registration for the entire league down.”
