Southern California to welcome 6,700 naturalized immigrants as lawful residents

–Los Angeles and Southern California will welcome more than 6,700 newly naturalized citizens Wednesday afternoon in the south hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center. The candidates, lawful permanent residents who have met all the requirements for citizenship, represent 126 countries. Members of the armed forces will also join the group of soon-to-be U.S. citizens taking the Oath of Allegiance.

The top countries represented at Wednesday’s ceremony include: Mexico, Philippines, China, El Salvador and Korea.

During fiscal year 2017, the United States Citizenship Immigration Services Los Angeles District welcomed more than 83,000 new U.S. citizens; USCIS welcomed 716,000 people nationwide.

These monthly naturalization ceremonies highlight the successful efforts of the USCIS Los Angeles District Office to process thousands of lawful permanent residents to become citizens of the United States of America. The district covers the seven counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo.
