Spring classes begin Jan. 22 at Cuesta College

–Cuesta College’s spring semester begins Jan. 22 and students can continue signing up for classes through Feb. 3. Classes are still available in many areas including art, English, foreign languages, music, and more. Also offered are free Emeritus College non-credit courses for lifelong learners. New this spring are several student services initiatives. This January, Cuesta College is opening two new Dreamer Centers at the San Luis Obispo (SLO) and North County campuses to support undocumented students and their families. The centers are made possible through a grant awarded to Cuesta College by the California Catalyst Fund – a private funding source focused on creating equitable opportunities for student learning at institutions of higher education. The college is one of 32 campuses throughout California that received support from the grant.
The Associated Students of Cuesta College recently approved funds for a cafeteria redesign on the SLO campus. All new furniture will be installed prior to the start of the semester.
Cuesta College will be hosting the first ever Community Resource and Civic Engagement Fair from 11 a.m. through 1 p.m. on Jan. 30 at the SLO campus and Jan. 31 at the North County campus. The college is partnering with community organizations to provide students with information and resources on topics such as food, housing, health insurance, mental health, and parenting. In addition, civic organizations will be on hand to provide opportunities to volunteer, register to vote, and learn about community engagement.
In order to better assist students in reaching their educational goals faster, Sample Educational Plans for Associate Degrees for Transfer have been made available on the Cuesta College website. These samples provide students with a roadmap on courses they can take each semester to finish their chosen program in two years.
Courses are offered at three locations including the San Luis Obispo Campus, the North County Campus in Paso Robles, and the South County Center at Arroyo Grande High School. Classes may also be taken online and via dual enrollment through local high schools.
The spring semester runs through May 24. The college also offers a variety of less than full-term courses that run between 17 and three weeks, as well as short-term courses that can be completed in two weeks or less. Currently, over 7,600 students are enrolled in courses at Cuesta College for the Spring 2019 semester. Course fees are $46 per unit. Students with questions regarding registration and financial aid should visit the Cuesta College Admissions & Aid webpage.
