Staffing shortage closes Shandon polling place
Signage was placed to direct voters to Creston
– The San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder’s Office temporarily closed the Shandon polling place Tuesday afternoon due to a staffing shortage, relocating voting services to Creston for the remainder of the day. Voting materials were transferred, and Shandon voters were directed to cast ballots at the Creston polling place, located at 5110 Swayze St.
The Shandon polling location, previously open at 101 W. Centre St., was closed at 12:45 p.m. when it became clear staffing would not meet the minimum requirement of three people to operate. Signage was placed to direct voters to Creston.
In a response to a Facebook commenter, the Clerk-Recorder’s Office acknowledged concerns and explained the difficulties involved, citing Shandon’s remote location and limited pool of available poll workers nearby. “When the dust settles and the Elections team understands why the afternoon shift didn’t show up, we will go from there,” the office wrote in response to a comment. “If it turns out to be an understandable situation, that’s one thing. Of course, anyone who just fails to show up will not be accepted as a poll worker again.”
Ballots with a postmark after voting day will not be counted.
