Steel Pulse gets Avila Beach dancing to classic reggae

The green hillside of Avila Beach Resort was blanketed in families, groups and a beautiful sunset and soft grass made it the perfect place to dance barefooted to Reggae, surrounded by other like-minded individuals.

Roots Reggae music rocks the Avila Beach Golf Resort

—Avila Beach was feeling very irie on Aug. 17, as the legendary English Roots-Reggae band Steel Pulse took over the scenic Avila Beach Golf Resort stage. The Grammy winners began playing in 1975, and are currently touring the US to support their latest full-length studio album, “Rebellion Rises.” Steel Pulse has been known for their message of love and justice, spreading the love for African heritage, standing up against violence of all forms. The band brings hope and positivity to their Roots-Reggae, trying to make a difference by spreading the words of vocalist, David Hinds.

Concertgoers had no trouble at all finding parking, as is the usual issue with Avila Beach, because parking spots were located on the green of the golf course, across the creek from the stage. Up into the hillside, and overlooking the gorgeous Pacific Ocean, the show had more of a festival feel, with food trucks and vendors dotting the edges of the arena. The gates opened at 4 p.m., and the show lasted late into the evening. Opened by Iya Terra, a young group of L.A. based Roots-Reggae musicians promoting positive, conscious music, the show also featured reggae bands The Green, and Tribal Seeds.
