    Student winners of Martin Luther King Jr. Day essay contest announced 

    Celebration will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Flamson Middle School

    Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

    Paso Robles Joint Unified School District and Almond Acres Charter Academy have been working with the City of Paso Robles to help celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Many students from throughout the district have submitted essays and artwork representing this year’s theme “Together, We Can Make a Difference.”

    The following Paso Robles High School students whose essays were selected:

    • 1st place – Joseph Cantrell
    • 2nd place – Nichole Landon
    • 3rd place – Katherine Schulte

     

    The public is invited to help celebrate Saturday, Jan. 16, from 1-3 p.m. at Flamson Middle School, located at 2405 Spring St., in Paso Robles. Awards will be presented to the top students for their work. The celebration will also include special guest speakers, musical performances, and a showcase of about 250 pieces of student artwork.

    In addition to the high school essay contest, there was also an art contest for 5th grade students. The art contest include winners from the following categories:

    – “most thought provoking” Braeden Mater from Almond Acres Charter Academy
    – “most relevant” is Nolan Severson from Georgia Brown Elementary
    – “most creative” Ella Gomez and Zoey Smith from Almond Acres Charter Academy

    Other elementary students being recognized for their artwork are:

    • Nolan Severson (Georgia Brown)
    • Cassidy Gard (Winifred Pifer)
    • Brooklyn Montgomery (Kermit King)
    • Devon Kinder (Pat Butler)
    • Alina Lugo (Winifred Pifer)
    • Maddie Williams (Virginia Peterson)
    • Carolyn King (Winifred Pifer)
    • Mick Barnett (Winifred Pifer)
    • Sydney Moore (Georgia Brown)
    • Raymond Kate (Winifred Pifer)

     

    Many of these pieces will be displayed at the district gallery inside of Studios on the Park for the exhibition entitled “Leadership” running from Jan. 29 – Feb. 27.
