—Thirteen juniors from Paso Robles High School recently attended the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp (RYLA) in Ojai. Over 300 students from area schools were selected to attend and PRHS students represented themselves well and came home with several awards.

Students were nominated by their teachers and interviewed by members of Rotary. The Paso Robles Rotary sponsored Josie Birrueta, Kate Reupold, Hala Nimeh, Neveene Al Azzam, Torri Pugh, Ignacio Roman, Marshall Wiesner, Aiden Kerr, and Jayden Loewen. The Paso Robles Sunrise Rotary sponsored Pablo Cortes, Laura Santos, Devin Hartley, and Finley Burns.

Some of the highlights: Torri is the third member of her family to attend the camp and has looked forward to attending since age nine, Marshall was selected on 26 of the 30 ballots to be his team leader, Ignacio won the talent contest by reciting a poem as a rap and received a standing ovation, Neveene won the award for outstanding courage as she demonstrated determination to complete a challenge that she struggled with, and Kate was awarded outstanding character for defending her position in a debate that was in opposition to many others. According to Rotarian Linda Midkiff, “Each and every student comported themselves well at the camp and were great ambassadors for Paso Robles High School and our community!”
