Over 150 students participated in the event

–Over 150 students in Paso Robles Joint Unified School District participated in the San Luis Obispo County “Bike to School Day” on May 4.  PRJUSD had the second highest rate of participation in the entire county. The Bike to School Day is sponsored by the county’s Safe Routes to School Program, part of Rideshare.org.

The event is intended to teach students about safety when riding their bikes. It also promotes a healthy lifestyle and educates students about being environmentally friendly. Awards and prizes were distributed to participants throughout the day which included bike helmets, fix a flat kits, and gift cards to Bike Kitchen SLO. Extra supervision was added to the school sites to ensure the safety of the extra bike riders on the streets.

The district efforts were coordinated by the Attendance and Safety Officer, Mick De Leon. The winning school was Pat Butler Elementary which had 90 students ride their bikes. Even principal Damien Capalare got in on the action. Pictured here are Pat Butler students and their principal.
