Students earn $100,000 at fair industrial arts auction

San Luis Obispo County high school students who created exceptional industrial arts projects sold them at a Mid-State Fair auction sponsored by Air Gas and other supporters.

The products ranged from wine barrel tables to a stainless steel barbecue.

A steel military table by Garrett Schiffer fetched $3,500. The stainless stell barbecue sold for $6,000. The money went to the students. The total generated by the auction this year, $100,800, which is a new record.

The annual event has grown in attendance as craftsmanship and creativity have attracted higher sales prices. About 250 people attended the auction Thursday afternoon at the Mud-State Fair.
