Studios on the Park invites military artists to submit work

Deadline for submissions is Nov. 1

    – The Master Sgt. Petry Chapter of the Association of the United States Army is partnering with Studios on the Park to present an art exhibition titled “My Military Journey,” featuring artwork by veterans, current service members and Department of Defense civilians.

The monthlong exhibit will run from Jan. 5 through Feb. 1 at Studios on the Park, located at 1130 Pine Street in downtown Paso Robles. A call for artists is now open.

The exhibition will showcase a curated collection of original works in any fine art medium, including drawings, paintings, mixed media, metal work, woodcraft and sculpture. Two-dimensional pieces must be ready to hang and no larger than 5 feet by 6 feet due to the gallery’s 8-foot wall height. Three-dimensional works must be easily lifted; artists must place any pieces over 40 pounds. Jewelry must be submitted ready to display. Installation artists should contact Jordan Hockett at jordan@studiosonthepark.org to arrange a site visit.

Amy Phillips, president of the Master Sgt. Petry Chapter and an Army veteran and current Army civilian at Fort Hunter Liggett, said, “Our aim is to amplify the voices of those who serve in a way that words alone cannot. Art becomes a bridge—connecting the military experience with the broader community through emotion, story, and shared humanity.”

The exhibition will explore themes of service, resilience, identity and transformation, with artwork providing an unfiltered look into the experiences of those who serve, from deployments abroad to moments of healing at home.

The opening reception will be held Jan. 10 from 6 to 9 p.m., coinciding with Fort Hunter Liggett’s 85th anniversary. The event will offer opportunities to engage with artists and foster connection between military and civilian communities. The exhibit will remain on display throughout January.

Studios on the Park is a nonprofit gallery and open studios art center that has featured world-class artists for more than 15 years. Paso Robles is known nationally as a premier wine and culinary destination, and the gallery contributes to the city’s cultural scene. The gallery expects more than 7,000 visitors for this exhibition in its 2,000-square-foot space.

The Association of the United States Army is a national nonprofit educational and professional development association serving America’s Army and supporters of a strong national defense since 1959. Art sales from exhibitions help fund essential arts services for more than 100,000 students, families and visitors each year.

Artists interested in submitting work must email images of their artwork along with a description of the piece and its inspiration by Nov. 1. Final selections will depend on submissions and available space. Notification of acceptance will be made by Nov. 11. Artists must deliver artwork Jan. 5 and pick up pieces Feb. 2 from 12 to 4 p.m.

Curators, including local artists who are veterans and Master Sgt. Petry Chapter board members, will select submissions based on personal vision, creative approach and execution. Entries must be submitted digitally to jordan@studiosonthepark.org as high-resolution JPEG or PNG files. File names should include the artist’s last name, title of work and dimensions, separated by underscores (example: Johnson_Glass Glows_16x12x4.jpeg).

Studios on the Park collects a 40 percent commission on all sales. Proceeds support programs such as Kids Art Smart, which provides free visual arts programming to thousands of K-12 students, helping maintain arts education after cuts in local schools.

The gallery is not responsible for loss or damage to artwork; artists are encouraged to carry insurance.

The exhibition will be enhanced by classes, lectures and demonstrations in various mediums. Artists interested in presenting such programs should contact Emma Henson at emma@studiosonthepark.org.

Studios on the Park carefully curates all social media posts about the exhibition and requests that artists share official posts rather than create independent marketing.

For questions about submissions, contact Jordan Hockett at jordan@studiosonthepark.org or call the front office at (805) 238-9800.
