‘Stuff the Bus’ charity event returns to San Luis Obispo County
– United Way of San Luis Obispo County will host its 17th annual “Stuff the Bus” back-to-school fundraiser from Aug. 8–10. The three-day, countywide event invites the public to donate new school supplies for local students in need.
The fundraiser will operate on the following schedule: Friday, Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Last year, United Way collected more than $60,000 worth of school supplies, which helped over 4,000 students throughout San Luis Obispo County.
This year, organizers are seeking additional volunteers, with a particular need in North County. Volunteer roles include site leads, who must be available all three days and complete a background check; general volunteers, who will assist with setup, donor greeting and supply organization; and adult supervisors, who are required when high school students are volunteering.
Those interested in volunteering can sign up individually or as a group at VolunteerSLO.org/StuffTheBus.
School supply donations can be dropped off Aug. 8–10 at the following locations:
In Atascadero, supplies can be dropped off at Mechanics Bank at 6950 El Camino Real. In Cambria, donations will be accepted at Cookie Crock Market. In Paso Robles, donors can visit either Target or Walmart. In San Luis Obispo, drop-off sites include Target and Staples.
Sponsors for the 2025 Stuff the Bus campaign include Mechanics Bank, PG&E, West Coast Community Bank, The Home Depot, EECU Smarte Banking and Miner’s ACE Hardware.
