Tackitt Family Vineyards event raises over $44,000 for EOD Warrior Foundation
Sixth Annual Warriors Helping Warrior Event Sold Out with Local Support
– Tackitt Family Vineyards of San Miguel, Calif. opened its doors to the public for their sixth annual Warriors Helping Warriors event. This annual event offers participants the unique opportunity to learn about the wine making and bottling process first hand while enjoying live music, brick oven pizzas, wine tasting. Attendees supported veterans because the event benefits the EOD Warrior Foundation.
Tackitt Family Vineyards, owned by Leon and Cindy Tackitt, produces special labels of wine to support the EOD Warrior Foundation, a non-profit organization that dedicates their efforts to helping Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force returning from combat with disabilities from loss of limbs to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as the families of fallen EOD warriors. The specialty wine label is called EOD Cellars and proceeds from every bottle sold, are donated back to the EOD Warrior Foundation.
“This event was even more successful than last year, raising $44,339 for the EOD Warrior Foundation,” explains Leon Tackitt. “It’s an honor for us to play a role in this important event and help such a great organization that goes on to help so many of our EOD warriors. Many of the local businesses and neighbors of Paso Robles stepped up to sponsor us which enabled the winery to raise this kind of money. We are especially grateful to the Barrel House Brewing Company, who opened their doors for us the night before and donated a dollar a beer to the foundation. We are already looking forward to doing it all again next year.”
Participants at the EOD Warrior Foundation event at Tackitt Family Vineyards personally helped bottle the latest release of EOD Cellars’ Basic Blaster Red and 100 percent of tickets purchased went directly to the EOD Warrior Foundation.
“It is incredible that we receive the amount of support that we do from Tackitt Family Vineyards,” says Nicole Motsek, executive director of the EOD Warrior Foundation. “We are truly grateful for their efforts in raising the money that will be used to help EOD warriors and their families. We are so fortunate to have an incredible partnership between our organizations.”
Coming up, the EOD Warrior Foundation will be hosting their annual memorial weekend, filled with activities. The EOD Memorial Weekend is May 5-6, 2017, and features events including a golf tournament, memorial ceremony, and an annual ball where this year’s keynote speaker will be Admiral John Richardson, who has been serving at the Chief of Naval Operations since September 2015. EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) technicians are highly trained military members serving in the Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force and are responsible for disarming, rendering safe, and disposing of bombs. There are approximately 7,000 active duty and over 20,000 veteran members of our military who perform this job, one of the most dangerous in the military. The EOD Warrior Foundation helps this elite group by providing financial relief, therapeutic healing retreats, a scholarship program, care of the EOD Memorial Wall located at Eglin AFB, Fla. and more. Their work is supported by private donations and the generosity of those who support the organization.
