Teddy Bear Tea returns to Paso Robles Park Ballroom

Children and families celebrate seasonal event Saturday afternoon

    – Dozens of teddy bears and their friends and families attended the annual Teddy Bear Tea on Saturday afternoon at the Park Ballroom in Paso Robles.

Santa Claus and his wife, the Snow King and Queen, and Mid-State Fair Queen Skye Davis and her court also attended the event. Many children sat on Santa’s lap to share their Christmas wishes. John Beccia led the group in Christmas carols as families sang holiday songs and enjoyed pastry and tea. Jan Hop spoke with children and their teddy bears about the traditional tea.

An empty chair sat at the edge of the stage with a hat hanging from one post. The hat belonged to Norma Moye, who helped develop the Teddy Bear Tea with Julie Dahlen. Moye died last week at age 92.

The event was later handed off to Terrie Banish, who ran the Teddy Bear Tea from 2001 through 2015 while volunteering with Main Street. Banish is now the Director of Community Services in Atascadero.

The annual Teddy Bear Tea remains one of the longstanding holiday traditions in Paso Robles.
