Teen arrested for vehicular manslaughter, DUI after killing bicyclist 

17-year-old from Los Osos admitted to drinking alcohol before the accident, police say

–A 17-year-old female from Los Osos was placed under arrest after striking and killing a bicyclist while admittedly driving under the influence, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department. The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Kennedy Love of San Luis Obispo.

On Tuesday night, at approximately 11:30 p.m. the San Luis Obispo Police Department received a 911 call regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle vs. bicyclist at the intersection of Foothill and Ferrini. The reporting party stated the vehicle had left the area and the bicyclist was in the roadway and did not appear to be breathing. Upon arrival officers located the victim in the number one eastbound lane, unconscious and not breathing. Officers immediately began CPR which was continued by paramedics as they arrived on scene. Unfortunately all lifesaving attempts were unsuccessful.

During the investigation officers located two witnesses who stated they saw a vehicle enter the Panda Express parking with damage to the front driver’s side window. Two females exited the vehicle and they appeared to be examining the damage. The females then got back into the vehicle and exited the parking lot onto Ramona. At approximately 1 a.m. officers located the vehicle abandoned on Tassajara near Luneta.

Investigators responded to Los Osos and contacted the registered owner of the vehicle. During their investigation they were able to identify the driver of the suspect vehicle as a 17 year old juvenile female and obtained a confession which she admitted to driving the vehicle which caused the fatal collision. The suspect did admit to drinking alcohol prior to the traffic collision. Based on the police department’s investigation and suspect statements she was placed under arrest for vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI and felony hit and run.
