Templeton CSD assures citizens of water safety
–The Templeton Community Services Department released the following statement about water safety, and other district services during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Templeton Community Services District’s (TCSD) water system meets all state guidelines. The district’s water treatment processes comply with all state drinking water rules and regulations to protect against viruses, bacteria, and other harmful constituents. The district also maintains a small and safe amount of chlorine within its water pipelines to ensure that the water delivered remains safe as it is delivered to our community.
Templeton CSD’s customers can be assured that the water is safe for drinking, hand washing and all other potable uses.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends that residents continue to use and drink tap water as usual — including washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Water and wastewater services will continue
Templeton CSD’s Water Department will continue to provide a safe and highly reliable water supply to the Templeton community.
Utilities Manager Frank Sprague says “the water and wastewater facilities staff have been practicing social distancing and have adequate supplies on hand to perform work duties.”
The district has implemented additional infection control measures including increasing the frequency of workplace cleaning, canceling non-essential business travel, utilizing teleconferencing in place of in-person meetings where feasible and restricting public access to all TCSD facilities. General Manager Jeff Briltz added that “the district wants to emphasize that the community can rely on the district for a safe supply of water.”
TCSD Water bills can be paid remotely
To support social distancing and limit person-to-person contact, TCSD customers are asked to pay their bills by phone at (805) 434-4900, mail their bills to Templeton CSD, P.O. Box 780, Templeton or use the District’s bill drop box outside the Administrative Office, 420 Crocker Street in Templeton.
Those who need assistance in paying their bill may contact the Administrative Office’s Utility Billing Department by telephone at (805) 434-4900 for specific needs.
District staff is still working but district offices and facilities are not open to the public at this time.

Templeton CSD Evers Sports Park and Tom Jermin Sr. Park (aka Bethel Park) and Templeton Skate Park are open for the public’s enjoyment. People are asked to follow all recommended social distancing protocols. And, one last request, if you are using disposable wipes for changing diapers, personal hygiene, housecleaning, and more — please be aware that they cause major problems when flushed down toilets. Though many of these products are labeled “flushable” or “septic safe,” they are anything but.
Because they don’t break down the way toilet paper does, disposable wipes clog homeowner and municipal sewer pipes, put stress on community wastewater collection and treatment equipment, and costs thousands of dollars on premature equipment repair and replacement. Wipes snag on any imperfection in sewer pipes, catch passing debris and grease, and create a “ball” that will grow to plug the pipe. They also get drawn into sewer-line and wastewater treatment plant pumps and clog and damage them. The increased use of disposable wipes has been causing difficulties for utility employees. If residents do use wipes to please put them in the trash where they belong. Don’t flush them!
