Templeton High School Athletes of the Week
Eagle: Bennett Wilson
Sport: Tennis
Year: Junior
Coaches comment: Bennett Wilson, Boys Varsity co-captain, #2 singles player on our ladder just finished the week with the Ocean League prelims at Nipomo High School where he started the tournament seeded #11 to battle and finished #4, qualifying him in the top six to compete in the area tournament between the Ocean League and the Mountain League on April 29-30. Bennett is such a great team leader and player. He always has a great attitude and pumps everyone up on and off the court, all while being an Honor student as well. Looking forward to a strong season finish and looking forward to next year. – Coach Nicol Zundel
Eagle: Zack Gonzales
Sport: Track and Field
Year: Senior
Coaches comment: Zach is a senior and team captain on the track team who competes in the 800, 1600 and 3200. Zach was volun-told to lead the team warm ups early in the season and was then voted to be team captain by his peers. It is easy to see why Zach’s teammates voted to make him captain; Zach quietly leads by example with his dedication, hard work and determination. There has never been a track meet where Zach has not been seen carrying a water jug or tent to and from the vans. Zach never complains, just shows up every day and giving his best effort. He is always kind and supportive of all of his teammates and always looking to be helpful to his coaches. At the Morro Bay meet on Saturday, Zach broke 5:00 minutes in the mile for the first time, running a 4:57 and qualifying him for the Carpinteria Russel Cup varsity mile in a couple weeks. Zach’s consistent effort and training will lead him to more success this season. – Coach Kasey Urman
