Former Templeton students sign books and share baseball stories
– A book signing and reunion for a group of former Templeton youths known as the Twerps will take place Jan. 15 at the Templeton Library, marking the release of a newly published book documenting their early baseball experiences.
The book, Have You Seen a Templeton Twerp? recounts true stories about a group of small-town children who played baseball together before the era of organized youth leagues. The Twerps, now in their 80s, will gather at the library to share stories and sign copies of the book.
The event is scheduled from 2–4 p.m. at 1173 S. Main St. Author Roark “Rocky” Weber will attend the reunion and read excerpts from the book during the signing. The public is welcome to attend.
The release states that members of the group attended Templeton schools from early 1945 through the postwar period ending in 1955. During that time, the group developed baseball skills, including arm strength, long before structured youth sports became common. Games were played on makeshift fields, with each game requiring creative improvisation.
The Templeton Library is a free, all-volunteer public library located across from Templeton High School. The library serves residents throughout San Luis Obispo County and maintains a large collection of current fiction.
