Today is the first day of school for Paso Robles, Shandon students

A big challenge faces student and parents at the campus of Flamson Middle School: Bauer Speck Elementary School has been relocated to the north end of that campus.

–Today is the first day of school for students in Paso Robles and Shandon. A big challenge faces student and parents at the campus of Flamson Middle School: Bauer Speck Elementary School has been relocated to the north end of that campus. The students will occupy about ten portables installed over the summer. It means more students will be coming and going from the Flamson campus. And that drop-off is complicated by roadwork underway between 24th and 32nd Streets on Spring Street, where crews are installing a new water line. Parents transporting their children to the Flamson campus are advised to be patient. Superintendent Dr. Curt Dubost visited the campus Wednesday to discuss logistics with administrators at each school.

Unfortunately, five of those portables for the elementary school do not have air conditioning, so the classrooms may get very warm today. High temperatures are forecast to reach 105 degrees Thursday afternoon.

Yesterday, at the old Bauer Speck Elementary School, Paso Robles Fire Department, Police Department and Cal Fire conducted an active shooter drill. Battalion Chief Brian Lewis coordinated the drill. They brought in school age children to participate the drill. He says he started planning that exercise 3-4 months ago, long before the recent shooting incidents in Gilroy, Dayton and El Paso.
