Torrin Vineyard new tasting room now open

The Hawley Family.

–Scott and Viquel Hawley, of Torrin Vineyard, are excited to announce the opening of their own winery and tasting room as of late 2018.

Scott Hawley, winemaker, began Torrin with a planting contract in 2002 and has been a viable presence in the Paso Robles wine scene for the last 20 years, with the Hawley family being well known throughout the community.

For the past 10 years, Scott has been splitting his efforts between being head winemaker at Law Estate Wines, while continuing to grow his own Torrin brand. Scott says he couldn’t be prouder of his association with Law Estate Wines, and overseeing that project from the beginning, lending his expertise in winemaking and mentoring, to help bring Law to the forefront as one of Paso Robles’ premier wineries. But as time has progressed, and the Torrin “dream” became a reality, Scott is now moving full time to devote his efforts to the Torrin brand, handing the mantle of Law’s head winemaker to Philipp Pfunder, who has worked under Scott’s direction for several years.

Scott and Viquel built their reputation on producing exquisite Rhone style blends and varietals, which will continue to be the core of the Torrin portfolio. However, they have recently added a companion brand, “Lagom” (which in Swedish translates to “just the right amount”). Grapes for this new label are sourced from prestige vineyards in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, the focus being on the “grace and finesse of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, embracing the notion that enough is indeed “just the right amount.”

Visit and taste

The Hawley’s tasting room is now open for the wine lover to come experience their award winning wines, on their property in the Willow Creek District. Tastings are by appointment, Thursday – Monday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

It seems as if the road the Hawleys have travelled has been built on a philosophy of “sure, why not?” Each step along the way they have always looked at their dreams, visions and risk when they asked: Should we do this? Answering: “Sure, why not.”

Talking about the new tasting room and label, Scott and Viquel commented: “It’s pretty remarkable that after nearly 2 decades of establishing our roots in the Paso Robles wine community, this still feels as if it is just the beginning. We are excited to share the wines and this place as we enjoy this wonderful journey.”

Visit and meet some very unique wines and people when you plan your tasting at Torrin Vineyard! They are located at 6360 Peachy Canyon Road in Paso Robles. For a tasting appointment call (805) 227-0107 or email: tastingroom@torrinwine.com

As a personal comment, I remember fondly, over a decade ago, when I would visit Paso Robles, and call Scott up for a tasting; he would say: “When you get to Booker (Scott was pouring out of their barrel room at the time), call me and I’ll come on down.” And then, whether he had one, two or three selections to pour, standing in front of a barrel, we would sip and chat. What a pleasure it has been to follow his path, and successes, to the new winery and tasting room on Peachy Canyon Road.
