Trumpet concert benefits United Cerebral Palsy Affiliate ‘Arts for Living’ 


–Cuesta College’s Community Programs presents An Afternoon Concert of Trumpet Music, featuring the San Luis Obispo County Trumpet Alliance, on Sunday, April 15, at 3 p.m. at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Morro Bay. The concert, co-directed by Dr. Warren Balfour and Lyle Stubson, will feature a varied program of chamber music, jazz, folk music, swing, and patriotic selections. The event benefits the United Cerebral Palsy affiliate Arts for Living; donations will be accepted at the door.

Formed in 2011, the Trumpet Alliance promotes the rehearsal and performance of trumpet chamber music. This advanced group is comprised of local musicians who are educators, business professionals and retirees. United Cerebral Palsy of San Luis Obispo County is a non-profit organization that supports children and adults with disabilities in San Luis Obispo County. Arts for Living engages persons with developmental disabilities in the community through inclusion in music and visual arts, developing skills for expansion of personal expression, group interaction and community connections.

Trumpet Alliance members include Robert Alberts, Curtis Bechtel, Danny Beher, Ted Hamm, Jess Hostetter, David Johns, Mike Juner, Charlie Kim, Don Lopez, Bruce Knowlton, Mitch Latting, Joe Montgomery, Stephanie Douglass, Rich Smucker, Steve Szabo, and Steve Vines. The percussion section includes Eric Engstrom, Vaughn Kaser, Gus Stork, and Alice Tomasini.

Music will be performed by the following composers: Leroy Anderson, Ray Dempsey, Kevin Kaisershot, David Marlatt, James Olcott, Stan Pethel James Scott, David Uber, and Franz Von Suppe.

The San Luis Obispo County Trumpet Alliance is sponsored by Cuesta College Community Programs, which provides a comprehensive source for life-long learning, recreational opportunities and cultural development.
