– Laurene D. McCoy has announced her candidacy for re-election to the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees for Trustee Area 5. McCoy, who was elected in 2022, completed the term of a trustee who moved and is now seeking a full term on the board.
“I ran for my current two-year term to complete the term of a trustee who moved, and I found that my perspective as a mother, as a working woman, and as a taxpayer is important and necessary to the conversations we have at each meeting. I don’t aspire to further political ambitions, but I do want to serve my community, and most importantly, our students, for another (full) term as a school board trustee,” McCoy said.
McCoy outlined her priorities, including campus safety, maintaining a focus on core subjects like reading, writing, and arithmetic, protecting parental rights under AB1955, fiscal responsibility, and supporting patriotism.
During her time as a trustee, McCoy said she has worked on several initiatives, including securing free transportation for students district-wide, providing a new home for Georgia Brown Dual Immersion School, bringing sixth grade back to elementary schools, and introducing an inclusive play structure at Virginia Peterson Elementary.
McCoy is a Paso Robles High School alumna and a mother of two Georgia Brown students. She emphasized her commitment to maintaining strong schools and safe campuses for the next generation of Bearcats.
