Update: Names of victims in double-fatal accident released
– The California Highway Patrol has released the names of the two people killed in the car accident on Highway 46 on July 23.
The victims’ name, ages, and city of residence are as follows:
- Helmut Stich, 83 years old, Paso Robles
- Karen Stich, 72 years old, Paso Robles

Two killed in head-on collision near Cholame Y
– A driver and passenger in a Hyundai died on the scene after crashing into an oncoming Ford truck on Highway 46 East Tuesday after midnight, according to a report by Templeton CHP.
The crash occurred four miles east of the Cholame Y.
The Hyundai driver reportedly attempted to pass a tractor-trailer and drove into the opposing lane. It then collided head-on at an unknown speed with the Ford truck.
As a result, both the driver and passenger in the Hyundai sustained fatal injuries and were reported dead on the scene. The driver of the Ford, identified as Grant McKenzie from San Diego, was taken to a local hospital after sustaining major injuries.
The identities of the deceased are being withheld until their families are notified.
Impairment is not suspected to be a contributing factor, according to CHP. No further information is available at this time.
