ONX Wines debuts facility

–Staff Report

– After seven vintages, ONX Wines is opening its first winery and tasting room at Tin City, an industrial area off Ramada Drive in Paso Robles. An open house celebration is slated for Oct. 16-18 during Harvest Festival Weekend.

“After many vintages as vagabond winemakers, we finally have a winery to call our own. Our open layout gives our guests views of our production area through ample glass openings, which brings the experience full circle. It is a winery that proudly shows its bones,” said Winemaker and Director of Operations Brian Brown.

During the festival weekend, guests can explore the integrated indoor-outdoor tasting area sample wines, including their first cabernet sauvignon/malbec/cuvee, the 2013 Caliber. “Caliber was a wine we were always going to make; it was just a question of when,” said Brown.

The tasting room features a rustic industrial feel that is in line with the Tin City vibe. ” We are enjoying contributing to the Tin City development, which is quickly becoming known as the stomping grounds for Paso’s boutique winemakers,” said ONX Director of Sales and Marketing Ann Day-Willis. “Our winery workspace is fully visible from the tasting room area, where guests will enjoy seated tastings and shared educational experiences.”

During the ONX Wines Harvest Fest Weekend celebration, a host of current release wines will be available for tasting and purchase, including: 2013 Mad Crush (91-Vinous,); 2013 Praetorian (91-Vinous, 90-Wine Advocate); and 2013 Crux, (91-Wine Advocate).

No appointment is necessary during the open house over festival weekend. Guests are welcome to stop in 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fri.-Sun. Oct. 16-18. All other visits are by appointment only.

Nicora tasting room re-opens

– Nick Elliot, proprietor and winemaker of Nicora Wines, announced the re-opening of his tasting room in Tin City, where wine lovers can now taste Nicora’s latest releases. Four reds will be offered: Buxom (predominantly syrah), GSM (a blend of grenache, syrah and mouvedre), Euphoric (from La Vista Vineyards, predominantly Grenache) and the 2013 Law Vineyard grenache/syrah blend. Also on the tasting menu is the 2014 vintage of The Undisclosed, a white blend of viognier and roussane. This is an opportunity for non-wine club members to be introduced to the wines of Nicora, consistently being receiving high scores and praise from various wine publications. Nicora wines sell out quickly, so don’t delay the opportunity to visit the tasting room.

Tastings are by appointment only, Friday-Sunday, 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. The new tasting room is located at 2945 Limestone Way in Paso Robles. The tasting fee is $15 per person.
