Two Paso Robles High School coaches removed over hiring process

Paso Robles Joint Unified School District logo
–Two Paso Robles High School coaches were removed from their positions because the district did not follow correct procedures when they were hired four years ago. Head Football Coach JR Reynolds and Varsity Swimming Coach Michael Sauret were not hired by former Superintendent Chris Williams and District Athletic Director Rich Clayton in compliance with Education Code 44929 and Board Policy 4127. The Education Code and Board Policy stipulate that qualified teachers employed by the district must have a preference in the hiring process. That policy was not followed.

The Paso Robles High School District says the decision is not a reflection of the coaching performance of either coach.

The district says those two coaching positions will be advertised internally to the current teaching staff immediately. They encourage all qualified teachers to apply. If there are no qualified teacher candidates, the district will open the positions to external applicants.

The decision by the district came as part of an audit of Human Resources at the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District office.
