Two Paso Robles students win district-level essay contest

The Boston Massacre was American history contest topic

–Two local students who won the El Paso de Robles Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution American history essay contest have gone on to win at the district level. Kate Nicholson, daughter of Cynthia and Jed Nicholson, won the 7th-grade level. She attends Templeton Middle School. The award was presented by Lida Lucas, Linda Wood, and Betsy Beatty at Kate’s home on Thursday, Feb 18.

Kylie Lefler, daughter of Kera and Sky Waters, won the 8th-grade level. She attends Cappy Culver Elementary School. The award was presented by Dawn Byrd-Beresovoy National Society Daughters of the American Revolution California State Society Daughters of the American Revolution at Cappy Culver on Wednesday, Feb 17. Also presenting the award were Regent Lisa Wood, Recording Secretary Linda Wood, Correspondent Secretary Sharon Wilson, Parliamentarian Lida Lucas, and Registrar Betsy Beatty.

Each girl was presented with a certificate and a check for $25. Their essays have been sent on the state level for judging. The state winner will be receiving a trip to Washington D.C. including their parents and history teacher.
