Two women arrested for drug, theft charges

–On Friday at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers of the Morro Bay Police Department arrested two adult females on a variety of drug and theft related charges. Over the past few days officers have been investigating a series of property thefts occurring from vehicles in the North Morro Bay area. While conducting the investigation officers learned that the suspects had used a stolen credit card at a local market and were able to obtain video evidence which helped lead to partial identification.

Further investigation led officers to a local hotel where the two suspects were located and positively identified. During contact with the suspects, 50-year-old Stephanie Rene Lara and 58-year-old Joann Marie Alley, both from Santa Maria, officers found the suspects to be in possession of stolen property from the earlier reported thefts. Both suspects were also found to be in possession of Methamphetamine and under the influence of the controlled substance.

Both suspects were taken into custody without incident and admitted to conducting numerous thefts throughout the North Morro Bay area. Officers believe there may be additional victims that have not yet come forward or do not yet realize they may be a victim of theft.

The Morro Bay Police Department has additional property recovered from the suspects and is asking anyone who may have been a victim of theft over the past two days to contact the Morro Bay Police Department at (805) 772-6225.

Both of the suspects were booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
