UC Master Gardeners host free workshop on seeds, irrigation in Paso Robles
Workshop will cover seed selection, growing seedlings, and transplanting them into a garden
– The UC Master Gardeners of San Luis Obispo County will host a free community workshop, “Seed Starting and Water-Wise Irrigation,” on Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Live Oak Room at Centennial Park, 600 Nickerson Drive.
The workshop will cover seed selection, growing seedlings, and transplanting them into a garden. Participants will also learn about water-wise irrigation, including watering plans for different soil types, irrigation methods, and selecting the best systems. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions, and, weather permitting, the Demonstration Garden will be open for visitors to see examples of best practices and speak with Master Gardeners.
The Centennial Park Demonstration Garden is a collaboration between the City of Paso Robles and the University of California Regents for the UC Master Gardener Program of San Luis Obispo County. The garden is designed to promote water conservation, support home gardeners, and provide food donations to a local food pantry. It features eight garden plots focused on topics such as trees, grapes and berries, lawn alternatives, pollinator-friendly landscaping, composting, and fire-safe succulent gardening.
“These regular free workshops offer a special opportunity for home gardeners who have questions or want to learn more about gardening,” said Maria Murrietta, program coordinator for the UC Master Gardener Program of San Luis Obispo County.
Preference will be given to those who pre-register at ucanr.edu/sites/mgslo/.
