UC Master Gardeners to host free event at Centennial Park

Attendees can speak with Master Gardeners and ask questions

    – The UC Master Gardeners of San Luis Obispo County will host a free public event, “Evening in the Garden,” on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Centennial Park Demonstration Garden, located at 600 Nickerson Dr. in Paso Robles.

The event is open to all community members and does not require registration. Visitors may arrive at any time during the two-hour event.

Beginning at 5 p.m., UC Master Gardeners will welcome attendees to view the educational garden plots, speak with trained Master Gardeners, and gather information at a staffed table about upcoming free workshops. Master Gardeners will also be available to answer questions related to home gardening. A free take-home gardening activity for children will be provided under the adjacent pergola.

The Centennial Park Demonstration Garden is a collaborative project between the City of Paso Robles and the University of California Regents through the UC Master Gardener Program of San Luis Obispo County. The garden aims to demonstrate water conservation, support successful home gardening practices, and contribute fresh produce to a local food pantry.

The demonstration garden features eight distinct plots: Trees; Grapes and Berries; Lawn Alternatives; Kitchen Garden; Curb Appeal and Pollinator Garden; Four Seasons Bulb Garden; Compost; California Natives and Wildlife Habitat; and a Succulents and Fire Safety Plot. Each garden area showcases low-water use techniques.

“These Evenings in the Garden offer a special opportunity for home gardeners who want to learn more about gardening or just come to relax and enjoy the lovely garden space,” said Maria Murrietta, program coordinator for the UC Master Gardener Program of San Luis Obispo County.

Free parking is available. Children are welcome, but dogs are not permitted in the garden.
