UC Master Gardeners to host free ‘what’s eating your garden?’ workshop
Free community workshop to be hosted at Centennial Park
– The UC Master Gardeners of SLO County are offering a free community workshop at Centennial Park where they have a Demonstration Garden. The workshop “What’s Eating Your Garden” will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Live Oak Room at 600 Nickerson Dr, in Paso Robles. Free registration is available at ucanr.edu/sites/mgslo/. Preference will be given to those who pre-register.
Participants will learn practical ways to protect their gardens from ground squirrels, gophers, rabbits, skunks, moles, voles, and other vertebrate pests. By getting ready early, gardeners can prevent pest invasion for a bountiful harvest this year. There will be plenty of time for questions about participants’ home gardens. Weather permitting, the Demonstration Garden will be open afterward to talk with volunteers and gather tips for home landscapes.
The Centennial Park Demonstration Garden is the result of a partnership between the City of Paso Robles and the University of California Regents for the UC Master Gardener Program of San Luis Obispo County. The garden’s goals include demonstrating water conservation, helping home gardeners be more successful, and donating food to a local food pantry.
The demonstration garden includes eight different garden plots to explore, including: Trees; Grapes and Berries; Lawn Alternatives; Kitchen Garden; Curb Appeal/Pollinator Garden; Wildlife Habitat; Compost & Roses; California Natives; and the Succulents/Fire Safety Plot. All plots are models for low-water-use gardening.
“These regular free workshops offer a special opportunity for home gardeners who have questions or want to learn more about gardening,” says Maria Murrietta, Program Coordinator for the UC Master Gardener Program of SLO County.
