‘Unaffiliated’ voters will not be permitted to vote in some primaries

Republican, Green or Peace & Freedom parties must register with that party to votevote by mail san luis obispo

–Over 20,000 postcards are currently being sent to unaffiliated voters in San Luis Obispo County who are also permanent vote-by-mail voters or who live in a vote-by-mail precinct so they can notify the elections office of their choice of ballots for the June election.

For the June 7, 2016 Presidential Primary Election, only the Democratic, Libertarian and American Independent parties are allowing unaffiliated voters to vote their party ballot. To vote in the Presidential Primary for the Republican, Green or Peace & Freedom parties, unaffiliated voters must re-register to vote with that party before May 23.

Voters are requested to return the postcard indicating their choice of party ballot for the June election by March 31. This deadline allows time for the voter record to be updated to ensure the voter receives the correct ballot in the first mailing of vote by mail ballots which is scheduled for May 9.

To assist these voters in making their choice of party ballots, the list of partisan candidates will be available on the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.ca.gov.

Anyone with questions concerning unaffiliated voters or voter registration should contact the County Clerk-Recorder at (805) 781-5228.
