Union Pacific replaces railroad ties in town

A large piece of equipment is used in a railroad tie replacement project in downtown Paso Robles
Union Pacific Railroad had a crew replacing 15,000 railroad ties on railroad tracks this week throughout the North San Luis Obispo County. A worker on the project said every three to four years all the ties are replaced.
It’s part of a $3.5 million project from Santa Margarita to San Miguel. A tie pick-up crew rolled through town removing the old ties and debris as the new railroad ties were replaced. The old ties are taken to a recycling plant.
Union Pacific public relations did not return calls for more details.
