Highway 101 lane closures planned next week near Wellsona Road
Closure is part of ongoing project to construct an undercrossing and frontage road near the intersection
– Lane closures in both directions of US 101 will occur overnight on Wednesday, March 26, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. as part of an ongoing project to construct an undercrossing and frontage road near the intersection of US 101 and Wellsona Road.
The closures are necessary for Caltrans to adjust temporary barriers and delineation in preparation for the construction of the southbound bridge, according to a press release. One lane will remain open in both directions during the roadwork.
The project involves building a new undercrossing beneath US 101, located south of the current intersection, which will eliminate the need for motorists to make left turns across traffic. The undercrossing will include a 112-foot-long bridge. Additionally, a frontage road will connect the undercrossing with Wellsona Road on either side of US 101.
This initiative aims to reduce the number and severity of collisions at the intersection. A detour has been established for bicycle riders. The San Paso Truck Stop will remain open and accessible throughout the project.
The contractor for the $12.2 million project is CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria, Calif. The project is expected to be completed in early 2026.
