Varsity girls finish 3rd, boys finish 4th at PAC 8 swim and dive final championships

–Varsity girls finish 3rd and Varsity boys finish 4th at the PAC 8 swim and dive final championships in SLO on 5/1-5/4. JV girls and boys both finished 5th. The Bearcats qualified 11 CIF events, and earned 10 All-League Honors. Below are the team highlights:

JV

The girls 200 medley relay team of Ryann Coffey, Yalina Curry, Aubrey Pasky, and Camryn Thorndyke was 4th in a season-best time of 2:19.45. The boys medley with Cameron Armstrong, Kaden Roth, Sebastian Scott and Carson Weide also finished 4th with a time of 2:30.25. In the 100 IM Roxy Hancock’s time of 2:21.36 earned 6th place. The 50 free had a strong showing for the team with Aubrey Pasky 3rd (29.58) and Camryn Thorndyke 6th (29.99). Pasky was back at it again with a 5th place finish in the 50 fly, her time was 33.53. Coffey and Thorndyke teamed to take 3rd (1:07.11) and 5th (1:08.55) respectively in the 100 Freestyle final. In the 200 free relay for the boys, Scott, Armstrong, Roth and Weide touched the wall 5th in a time of 2:03.54 and on the girl’s side it was Coffey, Thorndyke, Hancock, and Pasky with the 3rd place finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 2:00.55. The top finish of the day was in the 50 backstroke when Coffey took 2nd place in a time of 36.13. In the breaststroke events, Curry placed 8th in the 50 (41.11) and Weide was 7th in the 200 (1:19.87).

Varsity

In the 1-meter springboard diving event, Breanna Williams had her season-best performance with a score of 262.80 to finish 11th place overall and her teammate Cori Southward placed 2nd with a CIF qualifying score of 348.30. Both the girl’s and boy’s medley relays qualified CIF consideration marks and finished 4th at the finals. For the girls it was Cece Ramirez, Miranda Pasky, Sarah Clark and Shannen Dodds in a time of 2:00.15, and for the boys it was John Nash, Zach Tucker, Grant Scheiffele, and Gavin Hughes with a 1:44.35. Sophomore Mackenzie Raymond went a lifetime best in the 200 free, finishing 2nd with a CIF consideration time of 1:59.09. In the boys 200 free final, Scheiffele placed 7th (1:49.96) and Hughes was 3rd with a lifetime best CIF consideration time of 1:46.64. Emily Christian had her personal best performance in the 200 IM to finish 5th with a 2:22.88 and Gabriella Clayton was 8th (2:26.79).

In the girls 50 freestyle final, Dodds was 8th (27.07) and Audrey Hughes touched 2nd with a CIF automatic time of 24.65. The boys 100 fly final had Scheiffele finishing 4th for the boys with a CIF consideration time of 54.71. Clayton and Dodds represented the girls in the 100 free final finishing 7th (57.91) and 8th (59.55) respectively. The girls had a strong showing in the 500 freestyle with a 1-2 finish by A. Hughes (5:11.81-CIF consideration & lifetime best) and Raymond (5:25.14-CIF consideration).

For the boy’s 500 free, Ethan Moore had his personal best performance in his first trip to the finals with a time of 5:11.03 and it was G. Hughes with the top spot for the Bearcats touching 2nd in a CIF consideration time of 4:50.35. It was an extremely close race for the girls in the 200 free relay when Hughes, Clayton, Ramirez, and Raymond were barely out touched to place 2nd (1:43.99-CIF consideration). The boys 200 free relay team of Tucker, Javier Roy, Tim Howard, and Moore came in 6th with a time of 1:43.54. In the backstroke, it was Tatiana Smeltzer and Ramirez in the girls final finishing 6th (1:05.88) and 7th (1:06.02) respectively. Miranda Pasky was the girls finalist in the 100 breaststroke, placing 7th with a 1:15.40 and it was Zach Tucker for the boys also with a 7th place 100 breast in a lifetime best of 1:08.97. For the final event of the day, the 400 free relay had 3rd place finishes and CIF consideration times for both girls and boys. On the girls side it was Raymond, Clayton, Christian and A. Hughes (3:50.50), while the boys were represented by Scheiffele, Nash, Jasen Line, and G. Hughes (3:27.50).
