Vehicle collides with horse trailer crossing Highway 101 at Wellsona Road

    No human injuries were reported

    – A horse potentially sustained injuries in a two-vehicle collision on southbound Highway-101 near Wellsona Road on Thursday, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol. No human injuries were reported.

CHP responded to the crash at approximately 8:50 p.m. Upon investigation, authorities determined that a man identified as Valerio, 47, of Peoria, Ariz., was driving a black 2012 Ford F-450 while towing a horse trailer eastbound on Wellsona Road, west of US-101.

For unknown reasons, he crossed the southbound traffic lanes of US-101 directly in front of a red 2020 Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by a man identified as Rodriguezcanedelas, 37, of Gonzales. Rodriguezcanedelas collided with the left side of the horse trailer.

No human injuries were reported, and all occupants were wearing seat belts. However, one horse in the trailer sustained injuries.

The CHP stated that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the collision. The incident remains under investigation by the Templeton area office.

One of the most dangerous intersections in the North County. I remember hearing about fixing the intersections in that area a few years ago, but nothing has been done. You cannot have open crossings of a major highway like the 101. I’ve crossed this area hundreds of times, and it’s still nerve-racking.
