About 150 veterans turned out at the Atascadero Elks Lodge Thursday for a meeting sponsored by Congresswoman Lois Capps. On hand were representatives from several veterans groups including Dana Cummings, the County Veterans Services Coordinator.
Cummings told the veterans that a North County County Veterans Services Office would soon be opening in Atascadero. Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian and Supervisor Debbie Arnold also spoke at the event. Colonel Bill Hatch of the Faces of Freedom Memorial welcomed the veterans and introduced the speakers. Colonel Hatch graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1972.
The breakfast was an opportunity to thank local veterans for their service, while allowing them to meet with Capps and her district staff for assistance in obtaining the benefits they have earned through their service to our country.
At the event, the congresswoman and her staff provided information about a variety of benefits and resources available to veterans.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women who have selflessly served our country,” Capps said. “Veterans may not always get the thanks they deserve, but this breakfast will be a way to connect them to the benefits they may be entitled to, as well as a chance to thank them for their service to our country.”
Thanks for your interest in the plight of our veterans. After years of neglect we are finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.
