Victim’s son named ‘person of interest’ in North County homicide

–On March 28, 2009, Jerry Greer was found dead in his home in the 2000 block of Santa Rita Road in Templeton. Greer’s body was discovered inside the home by family members. His death was deemed a homicide.

This case has been thoroughly investigated since that time, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department. As a result of the Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Investigation Unit, a person of interest has been revealed in the murder of Jerry Greer.

On Aug. 16, sheriff’s detectives interviewed Brian Scott Greer and served a search warrant on his residence in the 1900 block of Fieldstone Circle in Paso Robles. Brian Greer is the son of Jerry Greer.

Sheriff’s Detectives are not commenting further on what evidence they have in the case or why they believe Brian Greer is a person of interest. Detectives collected items from the residence and their investigation is continuing. Brian Greer is a retired state correctional officer.

Detectives are asking those who worked with Brian Greer or who may have information on the murder of Jerry Greer to contact the Detective Division at (805) 781-4500.
